Valentine's Day is upon us, and once again we ladies face the dilemma of what to wear for the big date. Some girls might think this is another typical Valentine's Day, devoted to an over-abundance of Hallmark cards, inscribed with cliche messages of love and devotion, and bouquets of red roses. Of course, those staples remain, yet your outfit for the big day doesn't have to be as predictable. Here at the Purple Carpet, we are absolving you of the standard Valentine's Day bright red sweater. Just because it's the color of love doesn't mean anyone should be required to sport this often-unflattering color for the occasion. Every date is different, requiring different attire to go with the mood, and hopefully these fashion ideas will help give you alternatives to that standard red dress, or dare we say... red pants.
If your Valentine's Day festivities involve dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant, may we suggest trying a classic and simple, not-too-showy dress? Your guy knows you're a catch, (he did ask you to be his Valentine, after all) so don't feel pressured to show too much skin; keep it classy, and leave something to the imagination, at least until after dinner. Always stunning is the LBD (that's Little Black Dress), but if you're looking for a different color scheme, try gold, the perfect attention getter, or a subtle navy blue, a color which says that you're calm, genuine and ready for romance.
Skirts can also be nice for dinner settings, or even coffee and a movie, because they're easily dressed up or down. For a nice dinner try a pencil skirt paired with a white top, for an instant, classic sexy. Where the look with boots or stilettos, whichever you prefer, or whichever this temperamental Boston weather allows. If you and your date are heading out for a latte and old movie, try a classic jean skirt and cream colored sweater, with currently in-style brown tights and boots. Cream and brown works as a great color combination, as it's very stylish, yet always relaxed.
With this frigid weather, you might not want to even bother with bare legs, and, thankfully, pants also work for any Valentine's Day date. Jeans sometimes seem a little dressed down for a date, but we say there are many ways to dress jeans up. Just try a cute white blouse with a thick waist belt for a very high fashion look, topping it off with close-toed heels. Finally, we couldn't count out the always-fabulous tee and cardigan pairing, with skinny denim jeans and black flat boots, a classic look for those girls who think beauty and comfort should come hand in hand.
Valentine's Day is one of the most important days of the year, so don't spend it blushing behind that worn-out red sweater. Try out our fashion tips, be bold, and enjoy the romance.
