As the judges of Emerson’s Next Top Model deliberated, an audience of Emersonian’s sat quietly awaiting the judge’s decision. And the winner of Emerson’s Next Top Model is Maria Brophy.
“I was shocked,” said Brophy, “I tried out for fun.”
As a big fan of the well-known television show, America’s Next Top Model, Brophy was excited to have participated in such an event. “A lot of girls fantasize about the possibility of being a model, and the show,” (as well as ENTM), “was a great way to see that,” said Brophy, who is a senior Broadcast Journalism major.
When asked about the process of getting into ENTM, Brophy said it was easy. Each Emerson student who tried out to be in the Fashion Society's annual spring fashion show simply checked off a box on the model application sheet if they wanted to be considered for ENTM.
Based on their initial auditions, (which involed runway walks), models were chosen. Once they were selected, all that was left to do was hair, make-up, camera and shoot. Brophy said the photo shoots were "fun…but I can’t do sexy.” Despite her own statement, Brophy helped to produce beautiful, fun and sexy photos, and was apparently a pleasure to work with at the shoots. Her favorite photo shoot was the one in which she was able to pose with Timmy Vanwart, President of Emerson’s Fashion Society.
After the fashion show was over, Brophy was granted a full-page editorial in Emerson’s very own Em Magazine, which should be out by the end of the semester.
The Fashion Society plans to have another ENTM event this year, and for those who are thinking about trying out, Brophy says the most important thing to remember is, “you have to have fun and just let your personality shine through.”
